How You Can Help
Highland Community Residential Services (HCRS) supports individuals with an intellectual disability or mental health challenge to live independently in community. We support to 100 persons through our residential services, 180 persons through our respite and day programs, and over 200 staff who provide personalized supports promoting wellness, personal dignity, and human rights. Our homes and apartments are located throughout New Glasgow, Stellarton, Trenton, Saltsprings, Pictou Landing and Westville.
The HCRS Foundation was established in 1994 with bequests from A. C. MacLean and M. V. Jackson. It exists to support the capital activities of HCRS, including buying, building, or renovating houses to meet specific needs. The Foundation also supports social events that enhance and enrich community life for our residents, and a summer recreational activity program for children with intellectual disabilities.
The Foundation is a registered charity and is incorporated as a non-profit society in the province of Nova Scotia. A volunteer Board of Directors governs the HCRS Foundation, which does not have any employees. The Foundation raises capital in part through an annual fundraising auction.
